Lehigh Acres burglary suspect arrested after trying to flee deputies

A man has been arrested after allegedly committing a burglary in Lehigh Acres and then fleeing from deputies.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, 19-year-old Jarquel Starks took off on foot from deputies after a reported burglary Monday night.

Starks then jumped into a nearby canal to avoid arrest. Deputies dove in after him and took him into custody.

Witnesses said Starks was pulling on door handles and attempting to break into a home.

Starks also had an outstanding warrant for possessing a firearm by a delinquent.

He is being charged with burglary and resisting an officer.
