Lee County officials talk about combating illegal dog fighting

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers and the Gulf Coast Humane Society held a joint news conference regarding their efforts to combat illegal dog fighting.

During the news conference on Tuesday, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno delivered a speech reiterating his zero-tolerance toward animal violence.

The LCSO Animal Cruelty Task Force emphasizes its policy of giving a voice to those who cannot defend themselves, responding to every potential abuse call with extreme seriousness.

Marceno then mentioned Nan’s Ranch, an animal refuge where lower-level inmates care for animals as part of their rehabilitation.

He then reminded the audience of the Lee County Animal Abuse Registry.

The registry prevents those convicted of animal-related crimes from being allowed to own or adopt an animal in Lee County.

Lee County Commissioner Cecil Pendergrass then took to the podium, recollecting his time in law enforcement and reiterating Marceno’s talking points.

“During every commissioner meeting, we try to help people adopt the animals at the Gulf Coast Humane Society,” said Pendergrass.
