Former Fort Myers mayor Bruce Tolford Grady passes away at age 73

Former Fort Myers mayor Bruce Tolford Grady passed away on Aug. 14 at the age of 73.

Grady was born at Lee Memorial Hospital in 1951. Grady began exploring his political ambitions in high school, serving as Fort Myers High School’s Student Council President in 1969.

A Fort Myers native, Grady dedicated his career to improving the community, developing and managing real estate properties across the city until being elected to the Fort Myers City Council in 1988.

In 1996, Grady was elected as Fort Myers mayor. In his role, Grady accomplished the creation of the Winkler Safe Neighborhood District, as well as the redevelopment of McGregor Blvd.

A celebration of life for Grady will be held on Aug. 31 at Covenant Presbyterian Church on McGregor Blvd. in Fort Myers.
