The boy who was hit by a car while waiting for his school bus in Lehigh Acres is “recovering well,” according to his father.

Robert Gannon posted an update on social media Tuesday night about his son’s condition after being struck by a car at his bus stop on Friday.

In a local Facebook group where his post received more than 2,000 likes and over 400 comments, Gannon thanked Golisano Children’s Hospital for taking care of his 9-year-old son.

The community rallied, with 415 people signing a petition for safer bus stops. They want better lighting, benches, strobe lights for kids, clear signs and flood prevention measures.
