Two people hospitalized after lightning strike by Naples Pier

According to authorities, two individuals were in the gulf waters near the Naples Pier when a lightning strike occurred Saturday evening.

They were both transported to an area hospital due to the lightning strike.

The Naples Police Department closed the pier for the remainder of the evening as a cautionary measure.

According to police, the victims of the lightning strike were a 42-year-old man and a 24-year-old man.

The 42-year-old man sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital for further evaluation.

The 24-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

The conditions of the hospitalized individuals are currently unknown.
