A man accused of hitting a police officer and taking off is now in jail.

North Port police said 23-year-old Debahj Grant turned himself in early Wednesday morning.

On Sept. 16, Grant is said to have hit the officer during a traffic stop when he put his car in reverse, pinning the officer.

The officer said he injured his elbow and got some scratches, but he was OK.

Grant is charged with resisting and fleeing an officer and aggravated battery.
