A string of car break-ins occurred at the Bay Harbor Apartments in Fort Myers. It’s a gated community off McGregor Blvd.

According to neighbors, the gates were left open, and this led to multiple car break-ins at the apartment complex.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office crime section detectives are investigating car burglaries.

Neighbors said most of the cars broken into were around building 13 through 15.

One of the victims said that while her car wasn’t damaged, some important possessions were taken.

“There was money taken, yes, but I’m just happy that was taken and not more important, like significant items. So whoever did this can please take the money. If you really needed that bad, please take it. I’m just happy that none of my personal like sentimental items were taken.”

The apartment complex sent a letter to all residents advising everyone moving forward to keep their doors locked at all times to avoid situations like this.
