The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has announced the 30th Florida panther death of 2024.

According to FWC, it was discovered Friday on SR-29 Southbound, two miles south of the Deep 50 gun range.

The panther was male and three and a half years old.

The 29th death happened just five days earlier and was also killed by a vehicle.

Out of the 30 deaths in 2024, now 23 have been due to vehicles.

The FWC began recording litter, deaths and depredations in 2017, its inception year, and 2018 matched the standing record of 30 deaths within a year. Now, 2024 is tying the standing record for most panther deaths in a year.

Driving the posted speed limits, especially in Panther Crossing zones, can help keep Florida’s state animals safe.
