The Better Business Bureau is warning consumers about the rise of fraudulent pet adoption schemes during the holiday season.

Many turn to the internet to find their future cat or dog, but a recent study by experts found that a shocking 80% of sponsored pet advertisements may be fake.

Be sure to see the pet in person before making a purchase.

WINK News reporter Esly Davis spoke with the Better Business Bureau director of public relations, Bryan Oglesby, who said, “This is the time of the year when people want to buy puppies for their relatives or their children, and they’re searching online, looking for the right dog, and there’s a lot of fake websites.”

It’s important to make sure you’re engaging with a reputable breeder.
