After more than two years of uncertainty, victims of Hurricane Ian and other disasters are getting some financial relief.

This comes after Congressman Greg Steube‘s disaster tax relief legislation passed the Senate. The qualified disaster bill had been stalled in Congress since Hurricane Ian more than two years ago.

Steube recommends you speak to a tax professional to amend earlier tax returns for Ian damage.

“For Hurricane Ian, you can file an amended return for your 2022 taxes because obviously, everybody has already filed that for your expenses as it relates to Hurricane Ian,” he said. “That’s even your deductible that you paid, any expenses that you had.”

The bill would allow people to deduct additional expenses for repairs without the current limits.

Senator Rick Scott applauded the passage and said in a statement, “Passage of this bill is a good start to help so many families in Florida, Puerto Rico and across the nation.”
