Dead person discovered at I-75 rest stop in Fort Myers; death investigation underway

Florida Highway Patrol troopers discovered a dead body at an Interstate 75 rest area in Fort Myers, provoking a death investigation.

According to troopers, they were called to the scene at approximately 5:45 a.m. Tuesday. The body, confirmed to be a 40-year-old man, was discovered at the rest area along mile marker 131 on Daniels Parkway and Goldenwood Drive at around 6:06 a.m.

He was located on the ground of the rest area parking lot, next to his vehicle. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The Lee County Medical Examiner’s Office is determining the cause of death.  

FHP said that the death may have been medical related; however, this is through early examination of the scene.

The rest area is back open.
