Reactions to a new development on Fort Myers Beach has gone from negative to life-threatening.

Earlier this week, the town discussed the future of the old Red Coconut RV park, which suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Ian.

Now, Seagate Development wants to turn the land into 137 luxury condos.

Mayor Dan Allers voted no to their plans, but it passed anyway.

The mayor took to Facebook Thursday night, saying the people who voted yes have faced “verbal altercations and threats to their lives.”

Allers is now trying to cool the tensions, expressing behavior like that does not reflect what the people of Fort Myers Beach are all about.
