The Suncoast Humane Society will hold a grand opening for its new location following hurricane damage to its previous location.

There are different buildings specially made for the animals inside to keep them happy before finding their forever home.

The former building they resided in for around 50 years was hit by Hurricane Ian and previous storms, so it wouldn’t have been able to handle another.

Their new facility is over 25,000 square feet, which triples their previous location and stretches around four buildings.

Each room was hand-designed by different volunteers with different themes. The director of communications and development, Christine Varcoe, said this has been a dream for everyone involved for years.

“The animals get to enjoy their time here,” said Varcoe. “They are not stuck in a kennel; they have freedom outside playing because it brings out their real personality, and then the
adopters can see that, too.”

They will hold a ribbon cutting on Thursday and a grand opening on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with vendors, a band and many animals looking for a home.
