The Cape Coral Police Department has arrested a man accused of DUI while fleeing from law enforcement.

Police arrested Anthony Ferrara, 26, on Saturday after an attempted traffic stop at Santa Barbara Boulevard and Veterans Memorial Parkway for crossing the intersection while the traffic light was red.

According to CCPD, Ferrara, driving a blue Honda, increased his speed and ran through multiple lanes upon recognizing that police were after him.

Another officer stationed at Hancock Bridge Parkway and Santa Barbara Boulevard intersection saw Ferrara traveling through at 70 mph, 25 miles over the posted speed limit.

Ferrara allegedly crossed all northbound lanes of Santa Barbara Boulevard to travel westbound on Hancock Bridge Parkway until he pulled into a Taco Bell located off the road.

Assessing Ferrara, police found he had watery, bloodshot eyes, a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, slurred speech and poor balance.

He initially refused to give officers a field sobriety test; however, upon arrest, he agreed to provide a breath sample.

According to police, Ferrara’s blood alcohol level was .251%, three times over the legal limit.

He was charged with DUI and fleeing from law enforcement.
