FORT MYERS, Fla. – It’s an interesting business with an interesting business model. WearTheFund is a t-shirt printing company Sam Lewis started just over two years ago. They donate a percentage of their proceeds to local charities. “It all comes down to think local, act local,” said owner, Sam Lewis, “We support what’s in our backyard. We want to get the community involved.” Lewis says what is great about their business model is the exponential growth. If the company grows, so does the amount they donate back. “Last year, we gave back over $18,000,” Lewis said. That number is starting to increase thanks to the community supporting WearTheFund. Since WINK News first featured the business, a year ago, WearTheFund has moved into a bigger warehouse, added an automated t-shirt printer and an embroidery machine. Wednesday, the company was at FGCU looking to hire local as well. “We have to do 80 hours of community volunteer service before we graduate,” said FGCU student, Trisha Minniti, “so I already have some experience with the non-profit organizations and giving back. That’s really something that’s important here at FGCU, so I think that working with an FGCU student with this company would be really great.” WearTheFund is looking for a graphic designer to come up with new looks for their t-shirts. As for what the future holds, Lewis’ plan is to grow WearTheFund into a national brand. On Thursday, February 12th, WearTheFund is hosting a networking event put on by the Red Shoe Society. All proceeds benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southwest Florida.
