SANIBEL ISLAND, Fla.- A proposed new Doc Ford’s restaurant location on Sanibel Island is stirring up controversy.
Tuesday morning, the Sanibel Planning Commission will hear arguments about whether to allow a new Doc Ford’s restaurant to be build on 2.4 acres of land on Tarpon Bay Road across from Bailey’s center.
The restaurant would be about 9,000 square feet, have seating for about 212 people and include 122 parking spaces.
While some see it as a positive economic development, others say it will compromise the tranquility of the island, especially the preserve and hiking trails that would back up to the development.
Opponents are asking people to wear black to the public hearing this morning and make their voices heard. It begins at 9 a.m. at City Hall on Dunlop Street.
WINK News will be at the meeting and will bring you updates as we get them.
