COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.- Collier County commissioners received a $525,000 check Tuesday, completing funding for the Freedom Memorial.

The unfinished September 11 tribute sits along Goodlette Frank Road and Golden Gate Parkway.

The mastermind of the project, Jerry Sanford, worked tirelessly to raise the money.

“It’s for everybody that has fought in all the wars, allowing you and I to do this today and for all my friends and all those innocent people that were killed on 9/11. So it’s very humbling and very moving and I can’t wait to cut the ribbon,” said Sanford.

The county plans to match the funds, and the City of Naples will contribute $100,000.

They hope to put the finishing touches on the memorial by the end of the year.
