CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Detectives have arrested a man they believed is connected to numerous auto burglaries in southwest Cape Coral.

Daniel Owen Clapper, 44, is now facing charges of grand theft auto, burglary and grand theft.

Detectives found an abandoned stolen minivan in the 3700 block of SE 15 Place, near some apartments Clapper was known to visit.

Authorities kept watch over the area, believing Clapper would return to the van to venture out for another round of early-morning of burglaries.

Shortly after 2 a.m., Clapper was seen leaving one of the apartments and walking over to the stolen minivan. However, he was unaware that authorities had disabled the van, enabling them to take Clapper into custody.

Authorities say more charges are pending.
