ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (AP) – King Felipe VI of Spain will tour St. Augustine’s centuries-old Spanish-built castle and other historic sites in his country’s former colony.

The king is touring the oldest city in the U.S. with his wife, Letizia, to celebrate St. Augustine’s 450th anniversary and attend a meeting of the U.S.-Spain Council.

The royal couple was in Miami on Thursday, where Felipe gave a speech at Miami Dade College. He also met with President Barack Obama on this trip, where the two discussed refugees.

The 47-year-old became king last year, replacing his scandal-hit father, former King Juan Carlos, who abdicated the throne.

A recent poll in Spain’s El Pais newspaper shows that 81 percent approve of Felipe’s performance, and 74 percent approved of Queen Letizia.
