WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) – A South Florida police officer accused of raping a woman while he was on duty has been acquitted. A Palm Beach County jury found 36-year-old Stephen Maiorino not guilty Tuesday of armed sexual battery, armed kidnapping and unlawful compensation or reward for official behavior. If convicted, he had faced up to life in prison. The Palm Beach Post (http://goo.gl/ymaOCU ) reports that the former Boynton Beach police officer was accused of forcing a then-20-year-old woman to perform oral sex and then raping her on the hood of his patrol car. Maiorino’s defense attorney had claimed the sex was consensual.
