3 arrested for series of multi-state car break-ins

FORT MYERS, Fla.- Three people accused of breaking into cars at local gyms and stealing victims IDs and credit cards are now under arrest.

Anthony Alcantara, 21, Randy Jung, 26, and Gabrielle Clark, 19, are facing multiple charges including burglary, possession of marijuana, and possessing the ID of another person without their consent.

The crime spree ended on Thursday when the rented vehicle the trio was driving in was stopped on Interstate 75 in North Fort Myers.

After stopping the car, deputies could immediately detect the smell of marijuana. A search of the vehicle turned up marijuana, bank checks, credit cards and ID cards. Three key rings with several shaved keys and bump keys commonly used to break into locked cars were also found.

Officials say the suspects used the bump keys to break and steal the personal items of at least 14 people over the span of a couple weeks.

“When they came out, they didn’t see any signs of forced entry and that’s what really makes it hard, because this type of criminal, what they want is that time. From the time they commit the burglary, the longer they have, the more damage they can do to your ID and to your bank accounts,” said Captain Pete Hedrick with the Highway Interdiction Unit.

Hedrick says the suspects targeted victims from North Carolina all the way down to Florida.

Detectives are also looking for two additional people they believe are associated with the group. If you have any information, call the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 239-477-1340.
