NAPLES, Fla.- A former Naples police officer who was shot in her home will be getting disability pay.

A pension board unanimously agreed to give Sgt. Amy Young $42,000 a year.

Detectives say her boyfriend, Luis Monroig, shot Young then killed himself in their Estero home in 2014.

Young cried in court on Friday, saying she is suffering from PTSD, decreased night vision, dizziness and constant headaches as a result of the shooting.

“I’m very happy for Sgt. Young, she deserves this. She had a stellar career and shes the kind of person that’s going to meet adversity with courage and that’s what she’s done,” said Mike McDonnell, Young’s attorney.

Young was a 16-year veteran of the police force.
