Rain delays pothole repairs in Cape Coral, complaints pouring in

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Complaints are rolling into the City of Cape Coral about potholes on a number of streets including Pelican Boulevard, Cape Coral Parkway, and El Dorado Parkway.

“When I was driving today, I almost lost control of my car and I couldn’t get over into the left lane and I was going below the speed limit,” said Roberta Hinkle, who lives off Rose Garden Road. “There was a huge pothole in the 57th Street area southbound on Pelican, between El Dorado.”

Hinkle isn’t the only one concerned, the city says they had 21 complaints from citizens about potholes in December.

“Just the past two weeks here in January, we’ve had 32 complaints,” said city spokesperson Connie Barron.

Barron says most of the complaints are about Del Prado Boulevard, Diplomat Parkway, Pelican Boulevard, and Kismet Parkway.

Barron says crews are out working on the problem, but she admits the city has fallen behind due to rain, “we usually try to get out within three or four days. We do not fill potholes when it’s raining outside.”

Barron adds citizens can help by reporting exactly where the problem is.

“What we need residents to do when they find these, when they call and report, we need precise locations. Not just ‘it’s on Diplomat Parkway West,’ so we can get our crews out there,” said Barron.

To report a pothole, call the Citizen’s Action Center at 239-574-0425.
