PUNTA GORDA, Fla.- Better lights, noise control, top-of-the-line security and an 40,000 additional square feet were unveiled during a celebration of the Punta Gorda Airport’s Bailey terminal on Tuesday. The new terminal is more than double the size of the old one. “It’s a very exciting time for Punta Gorda because the airport is growing and so is the city,” said Mayor Rachel Keesling. Dozens of people gave a round of applause Tuesday morning commemorating the $11 million improvement. “The turnout was excellent this morning because everyone has a stake in this game,” Keesling said. “Everybody has worked to support the airport and their endeavors.” “We’re very proud,” added Gary Quill, executive director of Punta Gorda Airport. “For our community, it’s a great economic impact.” Allegiant Air is currently the only carrier at PGD but airport officials hope the expansion will bring more flights and visitors to the area. “We would love to see more,” said Pam Seay, airport authority commissioner, “we would like more airlines coming.”
