Naples man arrested after drug shipment was intercepted

NAPLES, Fla. — A 27-year-old man was arrested Monday after trying to sneak a shipment of drugs through the postal system.

Glen Snyder, of 43rd Ave. North, is facing charges of drug trafficking, possession of narcotics equipment and a DUI.

Customs and border patrols intercepted a box of more than 250 ecstasy tablets mailed from Germany. They were addressed to Sara Newman, a woman who lives with Snyder.

When agents delivered the package, Snyder opened it and spotted the tracking device. Despite agents’ commands, he then escaped on an ATV, leaving his two young children behind, investigators said.

However, the pursuit was short lived, as Snyder was arrested just a few blocks from his home.

During the ATV pursuit, agents said Snyder threw the tracking device and envelope of tablets. He later claimed the package was supposed to contain electronics.

“It’s always sad to see somebody that has to go to jail this time a year,” said neighbor Mary Sabonjohn. ” I feel very sorry for his wife and children. I know he has some sort of a physical condition that he’s not really able to work.”

The children are currently staying with their mother.

Snyder is in custody with a $7,000 bond. Newman wasn’t home at the time of the pursuit and hasn’t been arrested.
