One person was shot after an altercation with a deputy at a home in Tice Wednesday morning.

According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home on the 4500 block of Illinois Drive after receiving a call about a person threatening to take their own life.

When deputies arrived, they spoke to the person inside a room inside the home in an attempt to deescalate the situation.

LCSO says the person “charged at the deputy with a weapon. This deputy attempted to retreat several times during the incident, but could not retreat further, and at that time used deadly force.”

Deputies then gave the person medical attention and they were transported to the hospital. Their current condition is unknown.

“It’s terrible. Absolutely terrible.,” said Alicia Vayer, who lives in the neighborhood. “It’s the person, it’s what happened more than anything to their bitter ends and nothing could help them. And I’m sure the cops tried to help them big time but people are so frustrated and so angry I think.”

LCSO confirms the deputy was uninjured.
