A new Amazon Sortation Facility is has opened in Southwest Florida. But does this mean your orders will get to your door faster?

In some cities, Amazon already offers free same-day delivery and two-hour grocery delivery. But is that something SWFL shoppers can get ready for?

After seeing a job posting for the new facility, WINK News asked Amazon if that would be the case. That posting was for a “super fast” delivery service (two hours or less). A representative for Amazon then told WINK news that that job posting was “misleading.” Currently, there is no plan for the two-hour delivery service in Southwest Florida.

Donna Anderson isn’t a fan of online shopping but especially not for groceries. “I’m picky. I don’t want someone else picking my produce, especially. I cook. I’d like to see what there is to see,” Anderson said. “And some days some things look good, or they’re a bargain. And that’s… I don’t, I don’t want somebody else making that choice for me.”

For Anne Styles, getting her groceries delivered is the best thing since sliced bread. “Excellent. Could Amazon get any better? I’m delighted. Absolutely. That’s wonderful. I love Whole Foods. I love Amazon,” Styles said.

“Well, thank you, Amazon, and thank you, America,” said Styles.

Whether you’re a fan of the new facility or not, it is here to stay. And, on Monday, there was hope that Amazon would offer its two-hour delivery service. On Monday, on Amazon’s hiring website, a job posting was listed for the new Amazon facility in Lee County.

The job posting says that the employee will be packing and shipping items for the two-hour or less delivery service. However, on Tuesday afternoon, Amazon said that is not likely.

That news doesn’t impact Anderson at all. Even if she forgets potatoes before Thanksgiving dinner, she won’t be buying them online. “Never never would I do that. I’m a ‘plan ahead’ person. I have three lists when I shop to avoid that kind of insanity,” said Anderson.

Because of her planning, she says she’d never forget her potatoes to begin with. “No, I would not. I have potatoes in my bag right now.”

However, for many in Southwest Florida, this impacts them significantly. Especially during the pandemic, many people depended on amazon deliveries, specifically for their groceries. Amazon did admit that it will expand its two-hour delivery in Tampa and throughout Broward County. But for us in southwest Florida, we will just have to wait.

To apply for other positions at the new Amazon facility, you can go to their website.
