Collier County Domestic Animal Services needs a helping hand. It’s kitten season, so the agency is asking anyone who can foster, to fill out an application.

If you have space in your home and your heart you are encouraged to sign up to be part of the organization’s Foster Care team.

Grace Angel works at Collier County Domestic Animal Services and is talking about the kittens. “From this age down to bottle babies, newborns with momma’s, medical issues, we get a little bit of everything,” Angel said.

With an influx of kittens expected over the next six months, Angel explains how foster homes help the shelter and kittens in need of a temporary place to stay. “Being able to have that home where they can go and grow up get that development that they need, get the enrichment that they need rather than being stuck here at the shelter,” said Angel.

Fosters help to lighten the workload and can help offset the cost of care for places like Collier Domestic Animal Services but if money is stopping you from fostering — CCDAS can provide everything you’ll need to care for a kitten.

Plus, sometimes, foster homes become forever homes. “We call those foster wins,” said Angel.

But, if you aren’t ready for that long-term commitment and are on the fence about fostering, they recommend just trying it out. “Give it a try! Give it a try! We are always here to help. We are always here to give you the support you need,” Angel said.

You never know. It could be for you. “You do get attached to them, but you know the next one is coming in the door that’s going to need your help,” said Angel.

If you are interested in fostering a kitten, you can fill out an online application on the county’s website.
