Leader of Fort Myers drug-trafficking ring indicted on murder-for-hire charges

A man who previously pled guilty to conspiracy as leader of a drug trafficking ring has been charged with murder-for-hire.

Marvin Harris, Jr., 24, aka “Mesh,” was charged with conspiracy to commit interstate murder-for-hire and interstate murder-for-hire.

According to an indictment from the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Harris Jr. hired Latrel Jackson, 25, to travel from Illinois to Fort Myers to kill someone in 2019. The indictment says Jackson murdered someone in Fort Myers on November 2, 2019.

Jackson is also charged with conspiracy to commit interstate murder-for-hire and interstate murder-for-hire.

On November 2, 2019, 23-year-old Keion Upshaw was shot in a drive-by on the 1500 block of Gardenia Avenue, near the intersection of Michigan Avenue. He later died in the hospital.

Fort Myers police on Thursday posted on Facebook to acknowledge the indictment for the murder of Upshaw and wrote, “Our condolences are with the family, and we hope this brings some closure for your tragic loss.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says the case was investigated by Fort Myers police and the FBI.
