The last day residents can apply for Operation Blue Roof has been extended through Nov. 1 for homeowners in Lee, Sarasota, DeSoto, Charlotte and Collier counties affected by Hurricane Ian.

The Operation Blue Roof program is a free service for homeowners, providing a temporary solution to protect property and allow them to remain in their homes as they continue to recover. Homeowners impacted by Hurricane Ian can sign up at the Blue Roof website, by calling toll-free at 1-888-766-3258 or by going to one of the many in-person sign-up locations. A list of current sign-up locations can be found on the website.

Operation Blue Roof is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for FEMA. The Blue Roof program aims to provide homeowners in disaster areas with fiber-reinforced, industrial-strength sheeting to protect storm-damaged roofs until homeowners can make permanent repairs.

All storm debris must be removed for the roof to qualify. Roofs that are flat, metal, clay, slate, or asbestos tile do not qualify.
