A man was arrested Wednesday night after troopers say he struck a bicyclist on Bayshore Road in North Fort Myers and drove away.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a pickup truck driven by 60-year-old Fort Myers man David John Konley was traveling east in the outside lane of Bayshore Road, approaching Slater Road around 7:15 p.m. A 61-year-old man, also from Fort Myers, was riding a bicycle east on Bayshore Road. Konley tried to make a turn into the parking lot of the Walgreens at 6370 Bayshore Road and struck the bicyclist.
After the crash, Konley stopped his pickup truck, got out and looked at the injured bicyclist. He then re-entered the pickup truck and drove away, leaving behind his passenger, a 53-year-old Cape Coral man.
Troopers found and arrested Konley at the home of his passenger. He faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with injury, obstruction, driving while license suspended, and a probation violation.
The crash remains under investigation.
