The Gulf Coast Humane Society has around 100 dogs in its shelter, all in need of loving homes. Every Friday, WINK News will introduce you to new dogs that could be the perfect additions to your family.
This week’s dogs:
Doug, a 6-year-old, 80-lb German shepherd mix. Doug still acts like a puppy: He is super friendly, has lots of energy and loves every person he meets, as well as his toys.
Gulf Coast Humane Society Executive Director Gary Willoughby says Doug would be great with a family that will take him for long walks and has older children. He has been in the Gulf Coast Humane Society for around a month. Doug was a transfer from Lee County Domestic Animal Services.

Tabasco, a 5-year-old, 70-lb labradoodle. He is friendly, sweet and mellow; perfect if you want a calmer dog. Tabasco is good with other dogs and children. His owners surrendered him because their children were allergic.
Candy Cane, a 1 ½-year-old, 70-lb Labrador mix. She is very photogenic, spunky and loves to play and give kisses. Candy Cane is as well-trained as she is lovable, being a graduate of the LCSO Cell Dog Program.
Willoughby says Candy Cane would be great with an energetic family that wants to take her out because she is going to want to go everywhere you go.
There is a dog for every family, and the Gulf Coast Humane Society hopes to make the perfect match. Contact GCHS at (239) 332-0364 or visit its webpage for adoptable dogs.
You can’t buy happiness, but you sure can rescue it.
