Orlando commissioners have approved the purchase of Pulse Nightclub for $2 million.

It will now serve as a permanent memorial to the victims of the 2016 mass shooting at the nightclub.

Last week, the announcement was made that the city was buying the property, but the decision was made official on Monday.

“We’ve had a lot of family members and others who have made it very clear that the most appropriate place to honor the victims is on that site, and we found it necessary to step in,” said Buddy Dyer, Orlando’s mayor.

The decision about Pulse Nightclub comes after years of trying to figure out the future of the property. The mayor also said several family members have been waiting for a proper memorial for their loved ones.
