Flood and wind watches issued for several counties ahead of Tuesday’s severe weather outlook

Published: Updated:

Coastal Charlotte and Coastal Lee counties are under a flood watch ahead of expected severe weather from Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.

A gale watch has also been issued for portions of the Gulf Coast.

A wind advisory was issued for Collier, Hendry, and Glades Counties by the National Weather Service Miami around 1 p.m. We can expect widespread southerly gusts in the 30-40 mph range, with some spots even higher. Winds will be strongest along the coast.

The wind advisory will be in effect from 10 a.m. through 7 p.m. Tuesday.

WINK News Meteorologist Zach Maloch is tracking breezy Monday afternoon conditions with a chance of isolated rain showers.

Here’s what to expect for the next three days:

Monday: Partly to mostly cloudy with a few showers possible this afternoon. Breezy conditions with northeast winds at 10 to 20 mph. Temperature highs are expected to be in the lower to mid-70s.

Tuesday:  Mild and humid start to the day with mid to upper 60s temperatures. A mainly dry but windy morning is forecasted with early afternoon gusts as high as 50 mph. Highs in the upper 70s to lower 80s.

Areas of Southwest Florida are under either a Level 1 or Level 2 risk for severe storms. A line of strong to severe storms will arrive later in the afternoon and move southeast through the area through the evening hours. Damaging winds, heavy rain and tornadoes are all threats along that line of storms.

Tuesday night: As the storms move out of Southwest Florida, a shift in winds from the south to more of an onshore wind will occur. This strong onshore breeze will coincide with high tide late Tuesday into early Wednesday morning and coastal flooding will be possible. Coastal Charlotte and Lee counties could see 1 to 3′ of surge while Coastal Collier could see 1 to 2′ of surge.

Those who experienced storm surges during the storm system the week before Christmas may once again see the same Tuesday night.

Wednesday: Partly to mostly cloudy sky with clouds quickly decreasing around the area. Possible minor coastal flooding in the early morning hours may occur. Conditions will improve as the winds subside through the morning. Expect sun and clouds for the afternoon with highs in the upper 60s to lower 70s.
