Lee County Sheriff’s Office deputies have arrested one person following an evening shooting that killed a man in North Fort Myers.

Deputies arrested Andrew Perkins, 23, following a homicide investigation that began after 6 p.m. on Sunday at 18211 Roberts Road.

According to deputies, the victim was located inside the front of a vehicle with multiple bullet holes across the rear of the cab and in the truck bed.

Perkins was detained on the scene, where deputies extensively interviewed him.

Investigators said he came out of his house with a rifle, yelling at the victim not to hit his dog.

According to deputies, the victim then attempted to leave in his vehicle when Perkins allegedly began shooting at the car with a rifle.

According to Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno, both men knew each other, and in the past, they had numerous disagreements.

“This is unacceptable,” Marceno said. “Immediately, we got our suspect in custody. This is our first homicide of 2024, and [the] first one immediately cleared by arrest.”

There was a passenger inside the vehicle, according to deputies. However, the person was not injured by the bullet fire.

Deputies combed the scene for hours, investigating and collecting evidence. Marceno has one message for everyone in the community.

“Isolated incident, and we’re going to make certain again, the message has to be clear: law and order, safety and security, and we won’t waffle any which way but the right way,” Marceno said.

Perkins was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of attempted second-degree murder.
