The NAACP and Project Justice have announced they will hold demonstrations outside the local state attorney’s office every Thursday following her decision calling the police-involved shooting of an unarmed black man “justified.”

In December, Christopher Jordan was shot and killed by a Fort Myers police detective after his sister called the police saying he had threatened her with a gun.

State attorney Amira Fox said the shooting was justified despite the fact no one found a gun because the officer believed he and others were at risk.

The NAACP and Project Justice held the news conference at the Lee County Justice Complex at around noon Tuesday.

The organizations called what happened an injustice, and they are asking for the state attorney to overturn her decision.

They said if she doesn’t, they will call for the community to elect her out of office.

For now, they plan to hold a demonstration every Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in front of the state attorney’s office to raise awareness of their concerns.
