Fort Myers diverging diamond project to cause traffic mania Friday night

Published: Updated:

An already jammed pack area in Fort Myers is about to get worse as the diverging diamond project is set to close several intersections.

The Florida Department of Transportation is set to continue its plans for the diverging diamond, closing the intersections near Interstate 75 and Colonial Boulevard this Friday at 9 p.m.

Construction crews began assembling at the corner of Colonial and Ortiz Avenue earlier that morning to prepare to work on the project throughout the weekend.

If no delays occur throughout the weekend, motorists can expect the diamond to be available starting Sunday evening.

This will be part of the final push to complete the project, as motorists express relief that only a few hurdles remain in this construction nightmare.

According to FDOT, construction will be completed by October; however, for now, expect to see detour signage in the area while crews begin to work on opening the diamond in about 48 hours.
