Man arrested for DUI after crash that left 1 dead in Desoto County

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one dead and another in custody in Desoto County.

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. late Friday evening.

According to a press release from FHP, an SUV was traveling north on State Road 31, south of Southeast North Hog Bay Extension.

Another SUV was traveling south on State Road 31, south of Southeast North Hog Bay Extension.

The first SUV traveled onto the southbound travel lane and entered the path of the second vehicle.

The front of the first SUV collided with the other SUV.

Post-collision, both vehicles were overturned.

The second driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the first vehicle, Alejandro Sanchez Maqueda, a 37-year-old man from Arcadia, was placed under arrest for DUI Manslaughter and DUI property damage and booked into the Desoto County Jail.

This crash remains under investigation.
