This week, a new state law went into effect, cracking down on tracking devices like AirTags and increasing criminal penalties for people who track others without their consent.

AirTags help people keep track of luggage, keys and loved ones.

People can use them to track individuals by dropping them in a purse or hiding one in a car.

The new law went into effect Tuesday and also makes exceptions more clear.

Those exceptions include who is doing the tracking. For example, it could be a parent or a caregiver of an elderly person.

It also gives the police a more precise definition of when officers can use them.
