More drug charges for man accused of shooting in his Charlotte County home

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office has added even more narcotics charges against a man accused of shooting into his home during a domestic dispute.

According to the sheriff’s office, in September, 34-year-old Matthew Kyle Franklin was arrested for nearly hitting someone with his firearm at his home on Xavier Avenue in the Englewood East/Port Charlotte area.

During the dispute, the woman reported Franklin had been vandalizing her vehicle and had a sub-machinegun-style firearm. 

According to deputies, they searched the home and found a suitcase that belonged to Franklin.

Following a search warrant, detectives found baggies full of drugs, including cocaine, marijuana, THC wax, THC lollipops, mushrooms, MDMA, LSD, GHB, heroin and various pills.

The total amount confiscated was:

  • 402g of cocaine
  • 199g of phenethylamines (MDMA)
  • 35.4g of LSD
  • 336g of psilocybin (mushrooms)
  • 1.2g of heroin
  • 447g of marijuana
  • 25 THC wax units
  • 34 alprazolam pills
  • 11 amphetamine and dextroamphetamine pills

With this, Franklin’s new charges are:

  • Possession of firearm ammunition or weapon by a Floridian with felony convictions
  • Using a firearm or carrying a concealed firearm while committing a felony
  • Trafficking more than 28 grams less than 150 kg of cocaine
  • Trafficking more than 10 grams of phenethylamines
  • Trafficking more than 1 gram of LSD
  • Possession of an excess of 10 grams without a prescription
  • Heroin possession with intent to sell
  • Marijuana possession with intent to sell
  • 3 counts of possession of a controlled substance without a prescription
  • Use or possession of drug paraphernalia

With these new charges, Franklin is being held in the Charlotte County Jail with a bond of $318,000.
