Lee County Utilities is turning off the water for around 400 families as part of a scheduled outage and boil notice.

Utilities will shut down the water for those living on McGregor Boulevard from Port Comfort Road West to Sanibel Toll Plaza at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

Additional areas affected include Punta Rassa Road, Harbour Pointe Drive, and the Punta Rassa Boat Ramp.

According to utilities, the outage is necessary because Lee County Utilities must temporarily interrupt the water flow while replacing a fire hydrant.

The outage will run until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, after which a boil water notice will be issued in the abovementioned areas.

After approximately 48 to 72 hours after the initial notice, the water will be safe for consumption without boiling.

Lee County advises to follow the boil water notice until it is lifted.
