Driver in fatal Charlotte crash found guilty of vehicular homicide

A jury has found the driver involved in a fatal Charlotte County crash guilty of vehicular homicide. 

The jury returned their verdict on Wednesday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, on Sept. 21, 2023, 21-year-old Mason Jeter was racing his 2022 Ford Mustang GT against another driver in a Dodge Challenger SRT.

When investigating the crash, the FHP Homicide Unit concluded that Jeter was traveling at 110 MPH on rear bald tires, causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crash into the other car. 

The collision, which occurred on southbound Interstate 75, resulted in the second driver’s death. 

Jeter now awaits formal sentencing.
