Two Vietnam veterans raised over $20,000 to create a Vietnam monument at Cambier Park in Naples.

John Clapper and Clifford Schneider are the veterans who raised the money for the monument.

During his time serving in the Vietnam War, Clapper was exposed to the toxic herbicide Agent Orange. He is now the last survivor of his company.

He now honors his fellow veterans, those who returned home and those who never made it back, through the monument he and his friend Schneider had built in the heart of Naples.

“The monument means everything to me,” said Clapper. “This is the corner of Cambier Park that focuses on the soldiers who fought in Vietnam. I created a nonprofit first, which later bought the ceremonial stone.”

The Collier County community will gather at Cambier Park on Nov. 11 to honor those who served. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m.
