Cape Coral, Fort Myers hosting Veterans Day parades

CAPE CORAL, Fla.- Cape Coral will host the area’s biggest Veterans Day parade today, and Fort Myers will host its first parade in more than 40 years.

This year’s Cape Coral parade will honor Veterans of the Korean War. More than one thousand people are expected to line the parade route. It begins at 11 a.m. at SE 47th Terrace and runs from SE 9th Place to SE 15th Place. JROTC members will participate along with many local organizations.

The City of Ft Myers will host its 1st Veterans Day Parade in 43 years. Councilman Forrest Banks will be the Key Note Speaker and highlight our women veteran and their contribution to the military.  There will be a special tribute to Mary Swayer who is 102 years old and served from 1940-1945 in the Nurses Corps. She will be riding the lead car with County Commissioner Brian Hamman, and Congressman Curt Clawson will be walking in the Parade.

Cypress Lake High School marching band and Dunbar High School  marching band will be part of this event along with many others.

It starts at 2 p.m. and runs along First Street from Monroe to Lee Street.
