FORT MYERS, Fla.- A mother is under arrest accused of leaving her toddler alone in a filthy motel room.
Police say they were called to the Highlander Motel on Palm Beach Boulevard early Friday morning.
During the investigation, police say they learned that Shirlee Smith left her 2-year-old in the room while she went to another room to have a drink with friends.
Officers say a drug test also showed cocaine and marijuana in Smith’s system.
She is now facing a charge of child neglect.
