HCSO patrol cars sporting new “In God We Trust” decals

LABELLE, Fla.- Thirty-six Hendry County Sheriff’s patrol cars are now sporting decals with the words “In God We Trust.”

“I want to get the words ‘In God We Trust’ to the public let them know there are officers that do believe,” said Hendry County Sheriff Steve Whidden.

Sheriff Whidden says he wanted the cars in his fleet to spread a message.

“Me personally, I think it’s time we take a stand and try to get back to basics when this country was strong,” said Whidden.

Many people in LaBelle agree.

“I think it’s amazing what he’s done with the cars. I believe our country has gotten too far away from what this country was actually founded on, which was God,” said Mitchell Wills.

Though the stickers are getting a mixed reaction online, Whidden says his message to those people is pretty simple.

“If you don’t like it, don’t look at it,” said Whidden.

The sheriff also said the stickers do not violate the constitution and said the motto has been on Hendry County Sheriff’s badges for years.

Ragin’ Graphics, a local business that made the decals, didn’t charge the sheriff when he tried to pay.

“I wanted to just donate because I believe that if there was more God in the things that we do, the world would be at so much more peace,” said Kimberly Marroquin.
