Burglars hit 13 Marco Island homes in recent weeks

MARCO ISLAND, Fla.- Marco Island police say more than a dozen homes have been broken into in recent weeks.

“On Nassau there was another one I heard,” said a victim, who preferred not to be identified. “Up the street a week ago I heard, didn’t know until I got robbed.”

Thirteen homes on Marco Island have been broken into, leaving neighbors frightened and wanting to share what’s happening so other islanders won’t be next.

“I still wake up every morning and feel I have been violated, because people are touching your things.”

In many cases, the burglars broke in through screened porches. They targeted drugs in the homes, anything from pain medication, to cholesterol and diabetes medication.

“I went into the bedroom and saw all the dresser drawers out, they went through everything,” said another victim.

Marco Island police have yet to make an arrest, but say they are working with other agencies to track the burglars down.
