2 cases of Legionnaires’ disease confirmed, no threat

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Legionnaires’ disease is not a threat to the larger public, Lee County Health Department says.

The disease can cause pneumonia and is spread through the water. Two people in Del Tura contracted Legionnares’ in a hot tub recently. The health department tested the hot tub for bacteria but all tests were returned negative.

People living in Del Tura said they received a letter about the neighbors who contracted the bacterial disease.

Legionnares’ disease is very rare, the health department said.
