MARCO ISLAND, Fla. — A 68-year-old woman was pronounced dead at a hospital after she was submerged in the Gulf of Mexico on Monday afternoon near the South Marco Beach Access area, Marco Island city officials said. The name of the woman isn’t being released pending notification of her family, but the city said she is a part-time resident of Florida and Ohio. Bystanders assisted her husband in pulling her body from the water and police officers administered CPR in an attempt to save her. Witnesses said the woman was standing near the water and suddenly went under. No further information was immediately available.
