With COVID-19 on our minds, many of us are wondering if we should even get the flu vaccine, but doctors are stressing the importance of doing so within the next two months. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that anyone who is older than six months get a flu shot. It’s a good idea to schedule an appointment for the vaccine, especially if you’re older than 65 or have a compromised immune system. “I highly, highly recommend we get that this year, even if you never have before. Give it serious consideration this year because having the flu vaccine will protect you against COVID,” said Dr. Nicole Bruno with Island Coast Pediatrics. “When you get sick with the flu, your immune system gets knocked down and then the next virus you get hits you harder.” Bruno said your flu shot is the best layer of protection while we wait for a COVID-19 vaccine.
